Richard’s name is nationally-known across the nation’s flagship organizations, such as the Financial Planning Association and the CFP® Board National Board of Directors (organizations for which he holds national leadership positions). His background goes back to the early 1990s when he started his own practice. In 2000, Richard joined GTrust, based out of Topeka, Kan. Richard spent the next 14 years there building a team of financial planning professionals. This entity was acquired by a larger regional bank in 2014 and by 2016, Richard was ready to go out on this own.
Enter Dan Danford, Founder/CEO of Family Investment Center. Dan and Richard explain that they have a very complimentary skill set. The Family Investment Center team based in St. Joseph, Mo., has been working together for nearly 20 years, providing fee only investment management and a strong back office and fiduciary management culture. Put together with Richard’s knowledge of the systematic planning process, there is a true and vibrant synergy of the team.
Richard C. Salmen, CFP®, CFA, EA. Is a nationally-known name in the areas of financial planning and investing. His past leadership positions include national President of the Financial Planning Association and 2018 Chairman of the CFP® Board national board of directors. Salmen spent nearly a decade and a half as a member of the Army Reserves, achieving the rank of Captain. Salmen also a retired air traffic controller for the Federal Aviation Administration.
He comes to Family Investment Center from a top leadership position at BOK Financial Corp/GTrust, where he spent 16 years overseeing the firm’s financial planning practice. Through his leadership at BOK Financial Corp/GTrust, he helped hundreds of clients across the United States in a quest to “make money make sense.” Demonstrating his dedication to high standards in the financial profession, Salmen served as co-chair for two international financial planners’ tours and holds many industry credentials, including CFP®, CFA and EA.
He is currently in a four-year term on the Board of Directors for the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc., serving as the 2018 Chairman.
