Who makes up your family? My wife, Rene, who earned her medical degree from the University of Missouri (while I graduated from their rival, University of Kansas…grr) who now practices as a general pediatrician at Children’s Mercy. Our cat, Tony, who is the true boss of the house. Our older dog, Wick, who is the calmest dog to ever walk the earth. Last, but not least, is our puppy Teddy who is a giant 105-pound labradoodle who enjoys play, more play, stealing bread off the counters, and finally more play. We recently moved back to the area and bought our first home in BEAUTIFUL downtown Kansas City and look forward to living there for many years to come.
What do you enjoy most about your work? I enjoy hearing all the unique stories of our clients of what brought them to where they are and then supporting them as they work toward where they want to go. Educating our clients so they can make informed decisions and hearing the success they are having in their lives is the bright part of every day.
What expertise do you bring to clients? Prior to entering the financial industry, 10+ years ago, I was dirt broke and felt overwhelmed with all things finance related. Now, with years of study and practical experience under my belt, learning the industry piece by piece has helped keep my focus grounded in doing good financial planning to help clients with any size portfolio reach their highest levels of financial independence.
What is your idea of serious freedom? On a day-to-day basis, ultimate freedom is having the ability to do what I want to do rather than money dictating what I need to do. When thinking more long term, it’s being free of the burden of worrying about retirement because I KNOW we are planning correctly rather than just hoping that we are.
